EMDR-Informed Coaching

One of the modalities we may integrate into our work together is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. While EMDR has been most commonly recognized and researched as a treatment for PTSD and mental health disorders, I draw from it as a tool for coaching, a “Collaborative, transformative process in which a coach partners with a client to unlock their potential, enhance their self-awareness, and…take meaningful actions toward their goals” (Co-Active Training Institute, n.d.).

In addition to clearing unproductive thought patterns, behaviors and emotions standing in the way of your forward movement, EMDR has also been shown to enhance self-regulation, improve confidence, and promote more balanced emotional responses. Whether you're seeking improvements in relationship, navigating transition, or working to achieve a personal or professional goal, a resonant coaching partnership integrating EMDR is a unique and valuable resource.

A few Outcomes:

Loosened Limiting Beliefs: EMDR-Informed Coaching helps you identify and release unproductive patterns of thought, behavior and emotion holding you back.

Enhanced Emotional Intelligence: EMDR-Informed Coaching supports greater emotional intelligence— the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and influence your emotions and the experience of those around you of others, fostering more satisfying relationships, decision-making, and overall well-being.

Increased Performance & Confidence: EMDR-Informed coaching helps you tap into your innate clarity and openness to what is possible.

Who can Benefit?

Anyone feeling stuck. EMDR can be a powerful tool in the context of a trusting and resonate coaching relationship.

Individuals facing difficult and often-times previously resistant life challenges, navigating transition, experiencing burnout or a lack of inspiration and clarity about next steps.

Professionals seeking to become more present and responsive to themselves and those with whom they work.

Hakomi

Hakomi forms the central framework for all of my work. Developed in the 1970s by Ron Kurtz, Hakomi is rooted in mindfulness, cultivating your present-moment experience to dissolve core patterns impeding desired growth. This holistic approach to "assisted self-study" blends Taoist and Buddhist philosophies, body-centered techniques, and a systemic perspective, making it a dynamic, creative, and transformative method for change.

Core Principles & Results:

Mindfulness is central to the Hakomi process, guiding clients to shift into a state of relaxed, nonjudgmental awareness. By cultivating present-moment attention, patterns typically overlooked in traditional forms of communication and conversation become more visible. This awareness allows for the transformation of deeply embedded beliefs and behavioral patterns.

Nonviolence emphasizing respect, curiosity, and collaboration. Rather than imposing solutions or working toward a set of assumed values and goals, the coaching process is client-driven.

Body-Mind Integration involves the recognition that our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs are expressed in the body. By working with somatic material—posture, breath, movement, and subtle body cues—restricted energy and clarity are released.

Organicity reflects the belief that humans are intrinsically motivated and naturally self-guiding. Hakomi holds that this innate wisdom can guide you more easily when the mental, emotional, and somatic dimensions of your experience are in alignment.

Unity emphasizes the interconnectedness of all systems—somatic, interpersonal, and transpersonal. From a Hakomi perspective, growth is a process of integration, where fragmented internalized perspectives become whole. This systemic understanding fosters a deep experience of connection, recognizing that nothing— no dimension of experience, and no individual experiencer— exists in isolation.

Loving Presence is fundamental to the coaching relationship, and is defined as the compassionate and nonjudgmental stance of the practitioner. Research has shown that this non-judgmental orientation is a key predictor of coaching success. Loving Presence creates a context of acceptance, empathy, and appreciation which enables you to relax fully into your own direct experience.

Leadership- Self/Other

This approach also draws from principles and practices of Emergent Leadership Development, grounded in the view that you are not an isolated entity in a vast sea of humanity, but rather a vital expression of a dynamic web of interdependent relations, behaviors, and flows that is greater than the sum of its parts. From this perspective, leadership is not a fixed role found at ‘the top’, but rather a synchronistic and emergent relational process available to and through everyone at any time.

An Emergent Leadership approach inspires engagement across all facets of your life and relations, as positive changes made in one dimension create ripples across the broader landscape. The vitality of your interconnections rises in importance as leadership becomes increasingly experienced as both an ‘inside’ and an ‘outside’ job— fueling ongoing experimentation, collaboration, and adaptation.

A few Techniques & Benefits:

We take a Whole-Person Approach to the alignment of your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being with your decisions and actions, leading to more satisfying results.

By recognizing what falls within your Circle of Control versus your Circle of Influence, you can direct your energy toward what you can truly impact, while releasing attachment to things beyond your control. This clarity helps you stay focused, eliminate distractions, and take purposeful action.

By engaging with Powerful Questions, we cultivate a more open, experimental attitude that is less encumbered by attachment to expected outcomes and more receptive to synchronicity, spontaneity, and the unexpected.

By embracing new behaviors, actions, and mindsets through Experimentation and Feedback, you are invited to move beyond default habits and predictable outcomes. Try something new, assess the results, refine your approach, and repeat the process.

“The beginning of freedom is the realization that you are not ‘the thinker’. The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated. You then begin to realize that there is a vast realm of intelligence beyond thought, that thought is only a tiny aspect of that intelligence.” ~Eckhart Tolle
